Institute of Occupational Safety & Health (IOSH) accreditation

The BSc (Hons) Occupational Safety & Health Management programme  dispensed by the University of Technology Mauritius , under the School of Sustainable  Development & Tourism (SSDT), in the Department of Environment, Science and Social Sustainability (DESSS),  is the sole occupational safety & health course in Mauritius, having been accredited by the Institute of Occupational Safety & Health (IOSH) UK so far. Such accreditation enables incumbents to practice as Safety & Health Officers in many countries throughout the world without the need to take up additional qualifications or examinations.
Students successfully completing this programme will be eligible to apply for the graduate level of membership (Grad IOSH). After showing evidence of completion of a two year minimum period of initial Professional Development at their respective workplaces, they can apply for chartered membership of IOSH ( CMIOSH).
Students who opt to exit with a Diploma ( which the UTM allows), can also be eligible to apply for the Technician ( Tech IOSH) after successful completion of suitable level of practical experience as laid down by IOSH.
