Career Prospects
- The target audiences of this programme are the Health Inspectorate Cadre of the Ministry of Health and Wellness, the Local Government Services Commission and officers of the Ministry of Environment, Solid Waste Management and Climate Change.
- Increasingly, opportunities exist in private sectors and consultancies in the areas of food safety and environmental protection as well as wide avenues for research and further postgraduate studies in the related fields.
Objectives
To provide professionals engaged in Environmental and Public Health/Public Health Engineering/Environmental Science with further educational opportunities in the field of Environmental Health Engineering and Food Safety.
To develop Agri-Business and Entrepreneurship skills.
To promote food protection and preservation through the introduction of the food safety management system, environmental microbiology, biotechnology, and toxicology, food analysis, quality and processing.
To familiarize the students with disaster and risk Management strategies through Environmental Engineering and Design.
To provide guidance regarding Remote Sensing and Geographic Information System (GIS).
To sensitise the students about pollution monitoring and control.
To develop the ability to work responsibly in partnership with a multidisciplinary team and provide insightful guidance on professional issues to improve practice though interactions in ecosystem and natural resources.
Requirements
- General Entry Requirements
- As per UTM ‘Admissions Regulations’ and ‘Admission to Programmes of Study at Masters Level ’
- Programme Entry Requirements
- (i) A first degree in areas related to Environmental and Public Health, Public Health Engineering and Environmental Sciences from an approved institution.
- Or
- (ii) Exceptionally candidates holding a Diploma in areas of Environmental Health, Environmental sciences, Public Health Engineering or Sanitary Sciences from an approved institution and with at least 3 years of relevant professional work experience may be admitted. Admission decisions will be made by the School on a case to case basis based on evidence submitted by the student.
