MSc Environmental Health Engineering and Food Safety (In collaboration with the Chhatrapati Shahu Institute of Business Education and Research (CSIBER), India)

Shaping the Ecological and Food Landscape for a better future

Environmental engineering discipline focuses much of its historical efforts in developing regions of the world on advancing environmental sustainability and applies scientific and engineering principles through improving provision of water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services. Moreover, the food processing industries face many challenges in ensuring the safety and hygiene of their products, as well as the health of their workers and consumers. Contamination can occur at any stage of the food supply chain, from raw materials to packaging and distribution, and can have serious consequences for public health and business reputation. To prevent contamination, food processing plants need to engineer a safe and hygienic environment that follows good manufacturing practices, implements effective sanitation and pest control measures, monitors and controls critical points, and trains and educates staff on food safety principles.

The MSc Environmental Health Engineering and Food Safety (MEHEFS) is a trans-disciplinary programme developed jointly by experts from the CSIBER (India), University of Technology Mauritius, the Local Authorities and the Ministry of Housing and Land Use Planning (MHLUP) to provide students with the skills necessary to analyse and evaluate food, environmental and public health issues in a more scientific, technical and managerial terms.
Student exchange is allowable where students may spend 2-3 weeks at the CSIBER, India during the study programme as per the Memorandum of Understanding between the 2 institutions.
