Indeed, Nurses are the heart of our healthcare sector, to recognise their effort and contribution the School of Health Sciences (SHS) at the University of Technology (UTM) commemorated International Nursesโ Day with a ceremony acknowledging the invaluable contributions of nurses globally on 10th May 2024 at the university.
ย
The theme for International Nurses’ day 2024 was “Our Nurses. Our Future. The economic power of care.” The event brought together prominent figures from the nursing community, like the Chairman of the Nursing Council, Krist Dhurmah.
ย
Dr Rajendranath Goordoyal, Head of School, School of Health Sciences, emphasized the significance of the International Nursesโ Day in recognizing the dedication, sacrifice, and compassionate care of nurses worldwide. โIt would be unfair not to mention the crucial role nurses played during the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemicโ.
ย
The event also shed light on UTMโs efforts to address the current shortage of nurses in Mauritius. Dr Goordoyal announced the recent recruitment of a full-time Nursing lecturer, Dr. Hanish Dev Bhurtun tasked with developing new nursing programmes and establishing a calendar of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) opportunities. This initiative demonstrates UTMโs commitment to strengthening the nursing workforce.
