UTM and MPSAIR Sign an MoU to enhance Public Service
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on Tuesday, 17 September 2024 between the University of Technology Mauritius (UTM) and the Ministry of Public Service, Administrative and Institutional Reforms (MPSAIR). The overall objective of the MoU is to collaborate for the enhancement of the public service.
Distinguished guests attending the event included the Minister of Public Service, Administrative and Institutional Reforms, Dr Anjiv Ramdhany, the Secretary for Public Service, Mr. Koosiram Conhye; and the Director General of the UTM, Dr Dinesh Kumar Hurreeram.
Dr Dinesh Kumar Hurreeram emphasized that this event is significant not only for UTM, but also for the Ministry of Public Service, Administrative and Institutional Reforms. He emphasized of the mandate of the UTM for enhancing the capacity of officers both in the public and private sector for achieving higher levels of productivity and efficiency in their day to day operations. The Director General also highlighted the need for adopting innovative and emerging technologies such as AI, Fintech and Blockchain in this respect.
The MoU will allow both institutions to work on projects such as the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and emerging technologies in the public sector, the effective implementation of Performance Management Systems, and the pathway towards Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
The Minister, Dr Anjiv Ramdhany highlighted the importance of collaboration with UTM for research and innovation in the public service. “UTM has consistently supported the professional growth of public officers and will remain an indispensable asset in advancing the public service”. The initial project consists of providing an opportunity to all University students to benefit from placement opportunities in the public sector. Through the placements, students will have a better appreciation of the services offered by the public sector organisations.
