Geographically diverse and culturally rich, Mauritius is not only a well-known tourist destination but also a study destination of choice. The island state of about 1.3M people is located off the southeast coast of the African continent in the Indian Ocean, separated from mainland Africa by a distance of about 2,000 km. Our closest neighbour is Reunion Island; India is 3,200 km to the north and Western Australia is 5,854 km to our east.
Mauritius is four hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT + 4) and is approximately a 12-hour flight from Europe, 6 hours from Dubai and Mumbai, 8 hours from Perth, and about 3 hours from South Africa. The island remains accessible through regular service from main flag carriers such as Air Mauritius, Emirates, Air France, British Airways and South African airways to name but a few. With a view to increase air accessibility, the island is opening its skies with the introduction of low-cost carriers in its aviation scenery.
