With a first degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Mauritius (UoM), Dr Dinesh Hurreeram completed his postgraduation in Integrated Manufacturing Systems from the University of Birmingham and holds a PhD in Manufacturing Strategy from the University of Huddersfield,UK. He is a Corporate Member of the Institution of Engineers Mauritius (IEM) and a Member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), UK. Dinesh started his career as an academic at the UoM in the Mechanical and Production Engineering Department and later moved to serve as Head of Department and Dean of the Faculty of Engineering. He has also been a consultant to numerous companies in the formulation and implementation of strategies for developing competitive advantages. In this context, he has authored several publications and presented keynote addresses in the field of business strategy and quality management in several international workshops and conferences. He has been the Chief Editor of the Journal of the IEM for 7 years. As Dean of Faculty, Dinesh has had an instrumental role in the internationalisation of engineering programmes at the UoM and has been part of the leadership team for Mauritius reaching signatory status to the Washington Accord.

As part of his professional commitments Dinesh has served as Chairperson of the Mauritius Accreditation Service (MAURITAS), been a Council member of the Mauritius Standards Bureau, Council member of IEM, been the Director of Business Development at Enterprise Mauritius, the Manager of the University of Mauritius Training Centre and President of the Academic Staff Union at UoM (UMASU). Dinesh took over the helm of the University of Technology, Mauritius in June 2022. His priority is to transform the University of Technology, Mauritius into a centre of excellence for targeted academic programmes, research and consultancy activities with focus on the needs of the economic sectors and the community.
