Overview

THE School of Health Sciences (SHS), of the University of Technology, Mauritius since its establishment in 2015 has expanded its programmes within the scope of life sci-ences while keeping in mind educational polyvalence via the inclusion of modules which are interdisciplinary in nature and offered via a blended teaching/learning approach. The School currently offers 10 programmes; with 2 postgraduate courses, MSc Mental Health and MSc Health Services Management, and 8 undergraduate study programmes, BSc Environmental and Public Health, BSc Public Health Engineering (top-up), BSc (Hons) Sports Coaching (top-up), Diploma in Bioanalytical Laboratory Technology, Diploma in Pharmacy Technician Studies, and Diploma in Sports Training, Coaching & Exercise. The programmes at SHS cater for both part-time and full-time students in an effort to support young professionals in their academic endeavors. We provide a broad spectrum of opportunities for the graduate students in the likes of coaching, personal training, Sporting coordination and in the field of education. The Diploma in Bioanalytical Laboratory Technology is a key course to prime students with a keen interest in the diagnostic field either in medical or research laboratories. The Diploma in Pharmacy Technician Studies has been designed to address the training of the workforce in pharmacies with the vision of making Mauritius a pharmaceutical hub. The MSc Mental Health bridges elements of psychology and psychiatry while the MSc Health Services Management further characterizes the components of medical health systems ranging from health promotion to financial and procurement services which are essential within institutional platforms. Furthermore, the School provides cutting-edge medical education with its affiliated partner, Anna Medical College, with a revamped 5-year MBBS degree. Our strong pool of full time academics with an expertise spectrum spanning fields such as neurosciences, immunology, neutraceuticals, molecular and cellular biology, analytical biochemistry and sports among others, allows further access to Mauritians and interna-tional students wishing to join the School for doctoral programmes. The School is further gearing up to increase its programmes over the coming years and renew its ambition to be a focal point in health sciences across the African continent.
