This undergraduate diploma, developed in collaboration with the Mauritius Institute of Biotechnology Ltd (MIBL), aims to provide learners with a comprehensive and practical understanding of the principles and applications of biotechnology in industrial settings. This will empower learners to play a pivotal role in addressing global challenges, including those related to health care, pharmaceutical, agricultural, food and marine industries.

Objectives

The programme has been designed to cover the different concepts, principles and theories of Green biotechnology, Marine biotechnology, Stem cell engineering, Gene therapy, Drug discovery, Biomedicine, Entrepreneurship, and the Legal Framework in Biotechnology.

Requirements

  • The entry requirement for admission to the BSc (Hons) in Industrial Biotechnology (Top up) should adhere to the following requirements:
  • Either Pass in
  • 3 subjects at A-level including at least 1 science subject (preferably Biology, Chemistry or Physics) and 1 subject at subsidiary level at the Higher School Certificate Examination
  • Or Pass in
  • 2 subjects at A-level including at least 1 science subject (preferably Biology, Chemistry or Physics) and 2 subjects at subsidiary level at the Higher School Certificate Examination
  • Or Pass in
  • 3 subjects at A-level including at least 1 science subject (preferably Biology, Chemistry or Physics) at the London General Certificate Examination
  • AND
  • Candidates should possess a Diploma in Industrial Biotechnology or any related field from a recognized institution approved by the School of Health Sciences, University of Technology Mauritius.
