Creative Arts, Film and Media Technologies

The Department of Creative Arts, Film and Media Technologies is a dynamic department driven by creativity and innovation, offering undergraduate and postgraduate degrees as well as short courses.

The department provides a resourceful backdrop for the creative industry, comprising sectors such as graphics design, film production, digital, interactive and emerging technologies, 2D and 3D animation, and traditional and modern media and communication. Our flagship programmes are BA (Hons) Graphics Design and MA Graphics Design. We take pride in being the first institution in Mauritius to have established Graphics Design as a programme for both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the late 2000s. Over the years, the department has collaborated with various industry leaders and mounted programmes to offer industry-standard courses, ensuring a market-oriented career. The graphics design curriculum offers prospects in an ever-changing industry. The modules comprise theoretical and hands-on skills and knowledge, resourcefully preparing students to face the field’s challenges. Similarly, our BA (Hons) Film and Video Production, designed with the collaboration of the Board of Investment (BOI), the Mauritius Film Development Corporation (MFDC), and the Mauritius Broadcasting Corporation (MBC), provides students with new opportunities to explore the full potential of digital cinema and offers professional practice preparing learners for a career in the film industry.

The department is now working towards an exciting future-oriented vision, integrating emerging technologies such as Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) into its programme of study. This vision makes the department a solid platform enabling our students to a career combining various forms of arts, designs, communications and technologies. Our programmes’ curriculums embark students on thrilling journeys, inspiring and challenging them to push boundaries to craft powerful strategies and engage smartly with the community in various contexts. Local and international students take equal opportunities to discover current industrial practices and applications of theories. We emphasized developing students’ interpersonal skills, creative and critical thinking skills, multitasking and cross-disciplinary skills.

The Department of Creative Arts, Film and Media Technologies is a community of dedicated academics who are student-centred. We promote research, inclusive teaching and learning approaches that empower students’ employability and entrepreneurship abilities. We aim to shape students’ aptitude to adapt and lead in a fast-moving and ever-changing world.
