The Department of Business Informatics and Software Engineering is a good hub of innovation and talent, where all the academic staff is fully committed to equipping our local and international students with values, skills, knowledge, and training within the fields of Information and Communication Technology. The BISE department also has key relationships with significant ICT companies, thus ensuring that our courses stay industry standard and up to date with the latest technologies. Moreover, work placement forms an integral part of all our undergraduate courses, thus allowing our students to gain practical work experience. Our alumni continuously support the department by sharing attractive internship/job opportunities with our students.

The Department of Business Informatics and Software Engineering offers an excellent range of postgraduate and undergraduate programs in both full-time and part-time modes. The BSc (Hons) Software Engineering is meeting the increasing demand for well-trained graduates to work in the export-oriented software development industry. The curriculum provides a balanced and intellectually stimulating program that combines state-of-art techniques and emerging trends to produce skilled software engineers. This program aims to produce graduates who have a keen interest in software development and aspire to work as software developers. Our BSc (Hons) Web Technologies has been designed to equip students with specialized skills in designing and developing applications for the web, mobile, and related technologies. After graduating from this program, students will work as web developers, web designers, mobile application developers, web application architects, Front-end / Back-end developers, UI/UX designers, amongst others. The program also caters for students willing to launch their own business in the ICT sector. The BSc (Hons) Business Information Systems program of study has produced skillful graduates over the past 20 years who can exploit Information Technology in various business situations. It is concerned with the analysis, design, and implementation of computer applications and with broader issues of the strategic use of Information Technology in organizations. Our BSc (Hons) Computing and Information Systems Top-Up program has been designed for students already possessing a Diploma in Information Technology to upgrade their diploma to a degree level. The course content is market-driven and mainly aims to produce high-caliber graduates to be readily employed in various computing disciplines. The program aims to equip students with the skills required to become competent practitioners in developing and managing modern computerized information systems.

In line with the Government’s vision to increase the employability of fresh non-IT graduates, a Postgraduate course in Information Technology has been developed with leading ICT companies on the island. This program is an ideal means to gain a foothold in a fast-expanding ICT industry. The course content is tailored to the current needs of the ICT industry.

Our MSc in Software Engineering is primarily intended for graduates of computing subjects who want an in-depth focus in the software engineering discipline. This program is a basis for further study, research, and acquiring skills and knowledge in design patterns, big data, artificial intelligence, and other specialist fields. The MSc Artificial Intelligence with Machine Learning program focuses on the core principles of Machine Learning for AI, allowing students to understand and apply state-of-the-art techniques to solve modern-day challenges. The MSc in Enterprise Security and Digital Forensics has been designed for candidates wishing to gain employment in enterprise security and digital forensics-related areas such as with public and private security agencies, computer companies, local police forces, and other government agencies. The master’s degrees also serve as an excellent basis for students wishing to pursue studies for an MPhil/Ph.D. degree.

On the research front, the academics within the department are active in applied and theoretical research, which enhances the quality of teaching and different organizations in the country. Staff is involved in diverse projects, namely e-learning, the Internet of Things, robotics, big data, cloud computing, blockchain, machine learning, and artificial intelligence.
