Creative Arts, Film and Media Technologies

With the major leap in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), the department of Industrial Systems Engineering (ISE) aspires to create graduates who are equipped to deliver innovation in ICT and engineering to address new technological and societal challenges in an ever-changing world. The department is an inclusive and vibrant learning environment that is committed to nurturing students, promoting professional knowledge and skills as well as research development. All the undergraduate programmes involve the student experiencing appropriate exposure to the industry through work placements (internship). The collaboration with the industry for training our students is one of the main strength of the degree programmes offered in the department of ISE. Our students pursue their studies in full-time or part-time mode and recently we started delivering courses on a blended mode with both face to face and online interactive sessions. Our BEng (Hons) Electronic Engineering and BEng (Hons) Telecommunication Engineering are four year programmes recognized by the Council of Registered Professional Engineers (CRPE) for entry into engineering practice. In order to align the programmes to the prescribed competency standards of signatory members of the Washington Accord and the International Engineering Alliance (IEA), the revised version of the two programmes is currently undergoing accreditation with the Engineering
Accreditation Board (EAB) such that the courses are recognized internationally and our students are able to pursue further studies and practice the engineering profession abroad. The BEng (Hons) Electronic Engineering course combines scientific and engineering knowledge with creativity to allow students to solve some of today’s biggest electronic engineering challenges by designing and building electronic circuits to create smart devices, and autonomous systems. With the BEng (Hons) Telecommunication Engineering programme, students acquire a thorough understanding of modern and future communication systems and develop relevant skills necessary to be at the forefront of the ever-expanding Telecommunications sector. The BSc (Hons) Computer Science with Network Security aims at producing graduates with skills to contribute to the exciting and rapidly evolving field of computing which is completely revolutionizing the industry. With this course, students gain an understanding of the key principles of computer science while developing their programming, system engineering, and project experience skills. Graduates have a sound knowledge of today’s networked infrastructure and security skills to be able to properly design, and implement complex and distributed systems and applications. The BSc (Hons) Networks and Telecommunications Technologies degree emphasizes on the technologies that underpin the Internet, local and global broadband digital networking, and mobile communication systems that are required for tomorrow’s broadband-interactive information highways. It also focuses on the application of technology solutions to business problems in the telecom sector. Our MSc Computer Science with Emerging Technologies course equips students to be at the forefront of solving tomorrow’s real- world technology problems. Students will be able to forge a successful career in a wide range of industries locally or abroad and help their institutions embrace the digital transformation. They will gain a broad knowledge and acquire key transferable skills reflecting the emerging technologies such as Internet of Things (IoT), cloud computing, big data analytics, and blockchain applications for Industry 4.0+. Students will also have the opportunity to investigate areas of current research and be prepared for further study at PhD level. The MSc programme in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) with Specialisation in Networking aims to provide a foundation upon which a graduate can build a successful career, that is, it provides a grounding in networking for graduates who have not studied networks, computing, and related areas at degree level. The combination of the technology skills gained through this programme and the general competencies developed through the first degree in different fields other than network and computing (for example, Science, Engineering, Management, Accounting, Mathematics, etc) gives graduates a full span of experience, skills, and knowledge that are very attractive to ICT companies. In line with the Government vision, the programme is a possible solution to reduce the unemployment rate as it offers an ideal means to gain a foothold in a fast-expanding ICT industry. On the research front, the academics within the department are involved in diverse research projects in the fields of telecommunications, cyber-security, Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence and machine learning, amongst others.
